Manufacturing and Geographic Postponement

Manufacturing and Geographic Postponement The difference between traditional distribution channels and modern supply chain is time. Traditional distribution channels take time to get the order from customers and its also take time to deliver customers the product they had ordered because traditional model firms do their own delivery and because they are not the specialize in transportation it tend to take long time to deliver products and it also costly, so what the firms do in traditional model is they tend to have a lots of stock in their warehouse, which cost them a lots of money to pay for the spaces. The modern supply chain is differences from traditional model because of the customers need and specification. Now a lots of customers tend to favor the customize products that made just for them, so the supply chain dont have to maintain a lots inventories or stock which help firm reduce cost, and because of the changing in technology the customers can receive their order faster than before because modern supply chain firm hire the specialize in logistic to do it for them which tend to cost less than they do it themselves. And because they hire specialize in logistic firm can promise to customers about time to deliver product. The Internet help firm receive customers order faster, so they can deliver it to customer in the shortest time. In modern supply chain firm dont need to have warehouse to stock inventories, so their cost goes down, this mean the firm can achieve the better performance in the lower cost. 2. What specific role does logistics play in supply chain operations? Answer: Logistics is the process used to create value. The good logistic can help firm added value to their products by deliver it on time. The good logistic help firm get the effective connection between supply chains by manage the location to place inventory (warehouse), transportation, and order management. These help firm work faster in the effective ways. 3. Describe and illustrate an integrated service provider. How does the concept of integrated service provider differ from traditional service providers, such as for-hire transportation and warehousing? Answer: Integrated Service Providers (ISP) can be count as the practice of outsourcing. The two traditional ISP services is specialize in logistic that provide the service and other work that necessary for the firm to service customers. The traditional ISP offers warehouse (public warehouse) and sharing transportation services (for-hire transportation, ex. DHL). Now firm also help manage order entry and the delivery services, but in some situation they also they also provide the value-added service. 4. Compare and contrast anticipatory and response-based business models. Why has responsiveness become popular in supply chain collaborations? Answer: Anticipatory (Push) and response-based (Pull) business models are used by firm to fulfill the consumer requirement. Anticipatory business model is the forecasting of what products customers will want in the future, then produce products based on market forecast, which is high uncertainty because the firm cannot know that they can sell all the products that they produced. But response-based business model try to reduce the uncertainty by information exchange between supply chains. The new technologies help firm sharing information quicker and now a day response-based business model tend to be very popular because it helps company reduce the uncertainty. The company does not have to have much inventory like before because many company today use the build-to-order system. 5.Compare and contrast manufacturing and geographic postponement. Answer: Manufacturing postponement is produce product one at a time (make-to-order, Ex. Dell computer they will produce laptop as soon as they get order from customer) with no preparation to produce more products until they know the exact customer specifications. The geographic postponement is the opposite of manufacturing postponement. This basically produce product and put in the warehouse to wait for customers to order, then they will delivery it to customers in the fastest time or on time. So manufacturing postponement focus on reduces the uncertainty to have a lots inventory but the geographic postponement focus on the speed of delivering the products. 6. Define and illustrate cash-to-cash conversion, dwell time minimization, and cash spin. How do supply chain strategy and structure impact each? Answer: Cash-to-cash conversion is the process that company takes to convert  companys resource inputs (inventories) into cash, in order to expand customers sales. Companies usually give discount to the buyer that pay within the given time. Dwell time minimization is the time that asset is in storage compare to the time required to satisfy supply chain mission. Companies reduce dwell time by collaborating in supply chain to eliminate duplicate inventory and non-value-added work. Cash spin is trying to reduce assets overall assets committed to supply chain performance. The investment in a warehouse, if eliminated by reengineered supply chain. If firm combine these three strategies together and performance it well, it will increase the financial attractiveness of effective collaboration. Challenge Questions 1. What are the operating challenges related to the Toys R Us plan to establish 600 temporary or pop-up seasonal retail outlets? Be specific concerning the supply chain challenges leading into, during and after the Christmas selling season. Answer: Toys R Us has to talk to their supplier, who produces the toys, whether they can deliver the order or not because during the Christmas period customer demand are going up, so the company needs to make sure that they have enough inventory to provide to customers. And also the company needs to make sure that they have enough space to keep their inventories and they need to make sure that there will be trucks stand by to deliver products because in Christmas all the worker go on long holiday. But the company also need to make sure that they wont be to much inventories left over after Christmas because usually in Christmas company will produce the special toys for that period, so if it left over they may need to give some discount, which reduce companys revenues. 2.How do the concepts of SaaS and cloud computing differ from the services offered by traditional data processing service centers? Answer: Traditional data processing service centers is the system, which firms own and maintain by it own. SaaS is referred to the external system that firms buy from outside. SaaS provides both internal system and hosted basis. When use the large specialize computer system to host is called cloud computing. 3. Discuss how reverse logistics can create value. Answer: reverse logistics is the process of returning the products went the products had problem. With the internet it help company know the information about the product returning, so they can deliver new products to customer in the short period of time. This can make customers feel like company very care about them. This can help customers make decision when they buying products. 4. What is the primary value proposition of Kane Is Ables collaborative distribution service? Be specific concerning how this collaborative distribution service differs from traditional services offered by 3PLs. Answer: Public warehouse provide product storage and transportation, but because they not the specialize in transport, so sometimes they cannot manage to deliver product on time and it not the efficiency way of transportation. Kane Is Able Inc is specializing in offering transportation and share warehouse. And they are good in managing and delivery products, this help company save money and time because they can promise to deliver products to customer on time.

Complex Adaptive System

In-class Paper #3November 8, 2011 Topic: Define what a complex adaptive system is and identify the characteristics of complex adaptive systems Discuss how complex adaptive systems influence health care and subsequently nursing practice. Use examples form your practice to convey your understanding of complexity as it relates to your nursing practice. Outline: Introduction: Complex adaptive system is a collection of individual agents with freedom to act in ways that are not always totally predictable and whose actions are interconnected so that one agent’s actions changes the context for other agents. (GPlsek, P. E. & Greenhalgh, T. 2001) Characteristics of complex adaptive systems are: unpredictable interconnected, unclear boundaries, constant changing members, members also belong to other systems, each member uses internalized rules (these can, and likely are, different for each person and are not fixed). Complex system can influence health care because they can create positiv e or negative outcomes, they influence other systems and create tension and paradox that may be difficult to solve Body: Because the complex adaptive system is always changing, and interconnected with other systems so it will create many difficulty in solving the problems. In clinical settings, student nurses have to think critically and take multiple approach in order to intervene or solve the problems. Give examples from clinical settings Conclusion: Restate the significances of complex adaptive system and how it can influence clinical settings as well as health care Health care is a complex system. There’re varieties of different professions in healthcare from nurses to doctors, specialist, paramedics†¦ and even the concept of health itself is very complex as there’re many determinants that can influence one’s health. Moreover, health care matches the definition of a complex adaptive system, which is a collection of individual agents with freedom to act in ways that are not always totally predictable and whose actions are interconnected so that one agent’s actions changes the context for other agents. (GPlsek, P. E. & Greenhalgh, T. , 2001). The characteristics of the complex adaptive system are that it is unpredictable nterconnected, have unclear boundaries, constant changing members, members also belong to other systems, each member uses internalized rules (these can, and likely are, different for each person and are not fixed). Therefore, in order to work effectively in such complex system, nurses are required to have the competence to adapt to the system’s characteristics and utilize their best skills and knowledge to solve complex cases in complicated situations. The complex adaptive system is unpredictable, interconnected and usually have unclear boundaries. For example, at my clinical setting, which is a French immersion elementary school, is an example of a complex adaptive system. The school itself is a complex system because the students in the school is not only comprised of English speakers, but also the French speakers populations, and the teachers needs to know both language in order to communicate, to teach the students effectively. Students also come from different backgrounds, they have different ethnicities and different personalities. However, the school’s motto is â€Å"Better Together† which promotes the interconnectivity as they needs to work together to achieve the school goals. The interconnectivity characteristic is also demonstrated in an unwanted accident happened at the school. Grade 3 students there really like to play soccer, however, one day, there was a fist fight broke out between two students during a soccer game during recess, consequently, in order to ensure safety and that no conflicts would occur in the future because of soccer, soccer is banned at the school. The banning of soccer at recess elucidated to us as nursing students and the school staff that we need to address and improve the problem solving skills for the grade 3 students in order to prevent similar undesired occurrence to happen in the future. At this point, the boundaries in the school is not clearly drawn as teach the Health class is not nursing students’ responsibility, but the school expressed their need to us and wants us to do some interventions about it.Therefore, we devised to talk to the grade 3 teachers and ask for permission to teach the health class on days that we are at the sites to implement our intervention and address the problem solving issues among students. In Health class, we decided to act out skits of conflicting situations and have the students to come up with their ideas using appropriate problem solving skills to resolve the conflicts. By doing that, we – nursing students are not only take on the role of the student nurses, we are also the health class teacher on Tuesday to the grade 3 students. This example demonstrates tha t the context of the complex adaptive system (elementary school) really influences our nursing practice as we take on the role of Health class instructors to enhance grade 3 student conflict management skills. We exemplifie The above analysis shows that the complex adaptive system and its unique characteristics has strongly influence nursing practice in different context. As a competent nurse, we have to have the critical thinking skills, being creative and adapting to any situation in order to come up with the best possible interventions.

Of Mice and Men: Yearning Friendship

In the heart of every human, there is a longing for companionship. The novella Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck tells readers of the tragic tale between two males, George Milton and Lennie Small, who are trying to survive the cruel times of America's Great Depression. George and Lennie are two ranch workers hopping from place to place in order to survive and fulfill their dreams. Even though the two men are complete opposites, they stick together to the end of the novella. Steinbeck illustrates the theme, the longing and human need for friendship, by constantly pushing many characters through the feeling of loneliness, the benefits of cooperation, and the power of companionship. The feeling of loneliness forces people to realize their need for friendship. For example, when Crooks tells Lennie, â€Å"Books ain't no good. A guy needs somebody—to be near him. A guy goes nuts if he ain't got nobody. Don't make no difference who the guy is, long's he's with you. I tell ya, a guy g ets too lonely and he gets sick† (73). This reveals the feeling of loneliness drives people mad. The feeling drives people remarkably mad that they learn to accept any company that they have, even if the company is bothersome. Furthermore, Curley's wife responds to Lennie's stubbornness by stating, â€Å"Why can't I talk to you? I never get to talk to nobody.I get awful lonely† (86). This brings to light Curley's wife's actions of constantly annoying the males. Her loneliness causes her to bother people who normally push her away and ignore her—her heart longs for some sort of company, and it won't stop until she obtains one. Although the feeling of loneliness pushes the reader into realization of a longing for friendship, cooperation keeps a friendship lasting.Cooperation benefits a friendship between two people; it keeps the longing for friendship satisfied. For instance, Lennie remembers George's words and beams, â€Å"Because†¦ because I got you to look after me, and you got me to look after you† (14). This explains that two males depend on each other and leaning on each other's shoulders when it is needed through their cooperation. The cooperation between the two keeps their friendship strong even though they are total opposites. In fact, even by the end of their  tale, Lennie rejoicing, â€Å"An' I got you. We got each other, that's what, that gives a hoot hell about us† (104).This reveals that through their tough battles, they still stayed strong friends. Once again, their cooperation was shown through their dependence on each other. Due to the face that they have each other, Lennie suggests that that is the reason people give a â€Å"hoot hell† about them. He means that people know them or hear of them as a result of their friendship. The two cooperate, thus, making them known as a duo. The benefits of cooperation are not the only things that keep a friendship lasting; the power of companionship supports a lasting friendship as well.Companionship is a powerful element. For instance, when Carlson complains about Candy's dog's revolting scent, Candy replies, â€Å"I'm so used to him, I had him from a pup† (45). This reveals that companionship is powerful enough for a person to be familiarized with their friend's appearance, attitude, and personality—a person is not annoyed with certain characteristics of their friend, even though the people around them are. In this case, Candy's long time ownership of his his dog has enable him to no longer be bother by the dog's revolting smell. He doesn't mind it because it reminds him that he has a companion. The longing in his heart is well fed by the company of a dog; there is a chance that the longing will come back if his dog is gone. In addition, at the end of the tale, when George is speaking to Lennie about Lennie accidentally killing Curley's wife, George states, â€Å"No Lennie. I ain't mad. I never been mad, an' I ain't now. That's the thing I want ya to know† (106). This reveals that companionship is powerful enough for people to set aside their problems and stay calm in order to keep hold of a friend. Lennie's idiotic actions often causes many people to be angry with him, but George has been a companion of Lennie long enough to be habituated with Lennie's actions. George's longing for friendship is fulfilled, because he has Lennie. Companionship is a powerful thing that holds two friends together.Loneliness, cooperation, and companionship are three strings that intertwine, creating a braid that is called friendship. Separately, the strings are easily ripped apart; however, together, the braid is stronger, making it harder to rip. Steinbeck is trying to prove that friendship is an essential part of life. Friendship is important because without it, a person can be driven to madness and obtaining too much loneliness can kill a person. Any creature could be friend in Steinbeck’s point of vie w: a dead animal, a living animal, or a person.Whatever or whoever a character is comfortable around can be considered their friend and friends can be found in the smallest of things to biggest of things; a person just needs to take time and search. He teaches the reader that no matter the case, somewhere in a person's heart, there is a yearning for friendship.

Illusion Verses Reality in Death of a Salesman by Arthur...

Illusion Verses Reality in Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller Death of A Salesman, by Arthur Miller, is a play that tells the story of a traveling salesman, Willy Loman, who encounters frustration and failure as he reflects on and experiences his own life. Willys quest for the American Dream leads to his failure because throughout his life, he pursues the illusion of the American Dream and not the reality of it. His mindset on perfection, his obsession with success, and his constant reminiscence of the past and foretelling of the future, all contribute to his defeat in the end. The reality of the American Dream is that people are capable of succeeding. Success, though, requires one to work hard and be dedicated to†¦show more content†¦For instance, he has this dream of having a big, spectacular funeral. In the end when Willy dies, at his funeral, Linda says, Why didn?t anybody come?Where are all the people he knew? (137). All his life, he holds on to this fantasy, but he never faces the reality of how he could have made it come true. It is his vision of the people of the past that lead Willy to follow a particular path, leading to his demise in the end. The success attained by Willy?s role models, his father, Dave Singleman, and Ben, is what he envisions to be the American Dream. He only visualizes the end product, being successful, and not the process they may have gone through to achieve that success. Willy?s father sold flutes and made that his living. In an encounter with his thoughts of the past, Willy listens to Ben, his brother, who refers to their father by saying, Great Inventor, Father. With one gadget he made more in a week than a man like you could make in a lifetime (49). Willy assumes that by being a salesman, like his father was, he is automatically guaranteed success, and that it wasn?t something that he would have to work for. Material success, such as money, luxury, and wealth, and popularity are his goals and his definition of success. On the other hand, self-fulfillment and happiness through hard work is not. By only focusing on the outer appearance of the American Dream, Willy ignores the
